Artist agreement
Version 2026-10-draft
This agreement is between you (the artist or rights holder uploading music) and [COMPANY NAME] (company number [NUMBER], registered office [ADDRESS]) (“Choon ID”, “we”). You accept it each time you upload a recording, and we keep a record of that acceptance with the version you accepted.
1. Your rights and promises
- You own or control all rights in each recording you upload, including the composition, samples and any contributions by others, or you have permission from everyone whose permission is needed.
- Uploading it to Choon ID and our use of it under this agreement doesn’t infringe anyone’s rights or break any other agreement you’re party to (for example with a label or distributor).
- The information you give us (title, artist names, links, release dates) is accurate.
2. What you allow us to do
- You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to analyse each recording and create and store an audio fingerprint of it, so fans can identify it, for as long as it’s on Choon ID.
- We don’t play, stream, sell or share your audio with fans or anyone else. Choon ID has no playback.
- We delete the uploaded audio once it has been checked and reviewed (within 7 days), keeping only the fingerprint, unless you choose to let us keep an encrypted copy so we can re-fingerprint it if our technology improves.
- We show fans what you choose: an anonymous ID, or the title, artist name and the links you add.
3. Anonymous and private tracks
If you set a track to anonymous, we won’t show fans its title, your name or your links until you announce it. Private tracks can’t be identified by fans at all. We count identifications and followers and show you those numbers, but never who the fans are.
3a. Labels
- A label on Choon ID can ask to add you to its roster. You choose whether to accept, and which of your tracks it can see, one by one. You can change that, or leave the label, at any time.
- A label sees the same totals you do for the tracks you share with it (never who the fans are), and can download them. Groups of fewer than 5 identifications are hidden.
- A label manager can upload a track for you. It becomes your track, shared with that label; they confirm the rights on your behalf and you’re told by email. It stays anonymous or private: only you can make it public. You can stop sharing it or remove it. [LAWYER TO REVIEW: label authority and responsibility for uploads made on an artist’s behalf.]
3b. New versions and co-artists
- Until a track is released you can upload a new version of it (for example a remaster). It keeps the same ID, followers and history, so it must be the same track: we review each new version, and you confirm your rights again. Once a track is released, its audio can’t be replaced.
- You can add other artists to a track as co-artists. They see that track’s totals only, never your other tracks, and can’t change it. If you enter the email of someone not on Choon ID, we’ll email them your name and the track’s title with an invite, so only add people you made it with.
4. Review, removal and takedowns
- We review uploads and artist accounts and may decline or remove anything at our discretion, including uploads that overlap with other people’s recordings.
- You can remove a track at any time; its audio (if kept) and fingerprint are deleted. Encrypted system backups may hold a kept copy for up to 14 days more before they expire. [LAWYER TO REVIEW]
- If we receive a rights complaint about your recording, we may remove it while we look into it and will tell you. We keep a record of uploads, acceptances and takedowns.
5. Responsibility
You’re responsible for the recordings you upload. If someone makes a claim against us because a promise in section 1 wasn’t true, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs [LAWYER TO REVIEW: indemnity scope and limits]. Nothing in this agreement limits liability that can’t be limited by law.
6. General
We may update this agreement; you’ll be asked to accept the new version on your next upload. This agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
